LATEST NEWS AND UPDATES 3/13/10 John was recognized by the Wisconsin News Photographers Association in the 2010 Pictures of the Year competition. He received a first place award in the Spot News category for "Lucky Cyclist." In the Photo Illustration category he also placed first for "2010" - a panel of nature photos. Additionally, in the Feature Photo category, John took two awards. He received a third place for "Mutton Busting" and an honorable mention for "Frame Work."
2/13/10 John has received several awards in judging of the 2009 Wisconsin Newspaper Association's annual contest. Awarded were first place in All-Around Newspaper Photography, a second for his Spot News Photo entry, third places in Feature Photo and Page Design, and honorable mentions in General News Photo and Photo Essay categories. 11/11/09 Water Table, 2009, John's photograph of a reflected table and a pair of trees in a still river, has been selected by Paul Ha, Director of the Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis, to be included in the upcoming Coalition of Photographic Arts' Midwest Juried Exhibition. The show's run at Milwaukee's Walker's Point Center for the Arts is December 4, 2009 through January 16, 2010. http://www.wpca-milwaukee.org/exhibitions.html 9/13/09 For iPhone users, look for John's images on iFolio, a new app featuring the work of photographers from around the world: 7/25/09 The Racine Art Museum has included "Frame Work," John's image of an urban sign builder, in it's upcoming Wisconsin Photography 2009 exhibition at the Charles Wustum Museum of Fine Arts. The show was juried by Rod Slemmons, Executive Director at The Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago. You can check it out here: 6/15/09 The Los Angeles Times has publshed several of John's photographs of urban chicken owners in the Madison, Wis. area as part of a story profiling the growing trend: 4/5/09 The Associated Press has selected John's image of raindrops reflecting a flood warning sign as Wisconsin's Photo of the Month for March.
2/12/09 MSNBC has included "Frame Work" in the website's Week in Pictures feature: 2/6/09 National Geographic has named two of John's images as overall winners in the Visions of Paradise Photography Contest. Twenty pictures were chosen from an international pool of finalists following the two month online competition. The current issue of the outstanding music journal chronicles Chicago's vital contemporary blues music scene. 5/02/08 The Associated Press named John's image of a church explosion in Oconomowoc, Wis. as Wisconsin's Photo of the Month for April. The dramatic incident received national coverage, with the photo appearing in many national media outlets. 3/29/08 The Wisconsin News Photographers Association presented an Honorable Mention award for one of John's news photographs submitted in annual judging of the group's Photographer of the Year contest. 2/21/08 A new gallery section featuring John's latest images has been added to the IMAGE GALLERIES section of the website. Be sure to use the scroll arrow under this section to access the area, which will feature the photographer's work from recent days or weeks. 2/6/08 John's work has earned honors in the 2008 Wisconsin Newspaper Association's annual judging. First and second place awards were received for a pair of photo essays submitted, and a second place award was garnered for a feature image.
